Closing the Gap Final Product
Poor levels of Education
There is a great difference between developed and developing countries in regards to poor levels of education because of the management and control that governments possess. The developing countries that have poor levels of education are usually the ones that don’t prioritize correctly. For example, one country would place education more important than road development whereas another country might place that as a first priority. There are is also a great disparity in poor levels of education seeing as government don’t know how to manage and distribute the money they have; therefore making the developed countries ‘smarter’ in a sense and having a higher education rate is also going to determine the future of that country and who will be running it. This is a circle that keeps going round and round and for it to be fixed a new party or help must join the circle and put it back on track. The governments of these countries are causing the disparities. The governments with the greater disparities are the ones who in most cases receive more aid and greater help from other countries. These are the ones who can’t manage their countries and are corrupt. The countries with the greater disparities in education such as Mexico; students would only go to school up until year 8. Now technically speaking if the majority of students only finished school at year 8, they would one day be the brains of that country. Now if they are the ones running the country this problem is not getting better its only getting worse! So why wouldn’t you care, especially if this were your own country? Every time you pass a homeless person or someone who couldn’t afford to pay the bills, this is all thanks to the government. It may or may not be direct but it all leads back to one point. Many people might think that donations and money is the solution however that is a complete false. Most of these countries have a sufficient amount of money that could be used to not only fund education but to also provide and improve other areas of the country. No, the problem is that these governments don’t know what to do with what they have. The solution to this problem is quite obvious, you would simply have to assign someone from a developed country such as America to a developing nation. That certain someone would have to be responsible for teaching and demonstrating how that leader could improve and sustain the country. Now that is the solution but is it achievable. Will that someone take advantage of the situation to aid their own country, or will the leader of the developing nation start to take advantage. There would have to be all these holes patched if this ever happens. One thing is for certain though, ‘give a man a fish he eats for a day, teach a man to fish he eats for a life time’. That simple quote applies to this situation perfectly. Poor levels of education affects countries drastically, for it may not be seen now, however in the long run the effects will come to the surface. Poor levels of education is the reason for the unemployment rates, seeing as the people who apply for the jobs are not qualified or aren’t suitable. Education is one of the most important factors a country must be able to provide for its people. The people most affected by these disparities would be the citizens, the government and even the country itself. If the citizens can’t trust their governments because they aren’t or can’t properly provide for its people, the citizens will start to take action and take out a war against their own country. If the governments are that desperate and greedy they will fight back with all their power; however will most likely be overthrown. The new leader of that country would have had no education, hence restarting the cycle of bloodshed and eventually even other countries taking advantage and taking over the country. Poor levels of education is an incredibly important issue because of all the reasons and facts stated above. The citizens of governments of that country shouldn’t be the only ones to care, every global citizen must do their part in aiding that country to make it prosper and bring it back on track. If that country is back on track it will later be able to even aid you when you are in need. Yes, this issue is affecting the world more than we know, more to some than others. For people who live in a lucky country and prosper they would probably not even know that this issue existed or would not do their part to help. However if they knew how bad this was and were educated in a sense about this issue they would start to think differently about the world they live in. In 2010 a study was conducted which shows that over 70 million children across the world are PREVENTED from going to school each day. Now what im talking to you about are just poor levels in education, nonetheless there are over 70 million not going to school at all. The United Nations’ Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s (UNESCO) Educational Development Index (EDI), also conducted a test on the worst national education systems and they rank as follows:
10. Angola (0.685 EDI)
9. Gambia (0.677 EDI)
8. Pakistan (0.656 EDI)
7. Guinea (0.634 EDI)
6. Eritrea (0.623 EDI)
5. Ethiopia (0.622 EDI)
4. Central African Republic (0.617 EDI)
3. Mali (0.612 EDI)
2. Burkina Faso (0.594 EDI)
1. Niger (0.528 EDI)
These are shocking ratings and the majority of these countries are from Africa. This shows us a global citizens where we should start acting and helping.
